In My Room
Okay well I think I’m ready to start attempting to write journal entries again that don’t centre around the insanely depressing events of the last week. God, it’s been a long bunch of days.

I had a job interview at capital health but my references got all screwed up. First, my main reference was Ross. So...yeah. And then they called my house trying to reach Kristy for a reference. It’s some other company that does the checks for them but…idiots. I felt good about the interview. Sarah said it took months for them to offer her a job after her interview so I probably need to start looking for something else anyway. I ran into someone who works for Manpower at the film fest that I’d met on Trevor’s set who seems really excited about helping me get a job for some reason, so that’s a good lead.

Dave and Laura came to visit last weekend. They stayed with me for one of the nights, so that was cool. We went to film festival for the Uwe Boll night. It was so awesome! I totally went into the Postal/Heart of America double feature very, very sceptical. I'd seen Bloodrayne and Alone in the Dark and absolutely hated them. I thought Uwe was a hack. Postal turned out to be really funny. I'm not generally a fan of those sorts of films, but what it set out to do, it did rather well. The sight gags are great and there’s an undercurrent of clever political satire. With all the bizarre things going on the story actually manages to stay cohesive and logical (in the context of the movie’s logic anyway) which is something I find these sorts of films usually don’t pull off.

Then Uwe did a Q&A. He was hilarious and extremely personable. He answered a ton of questions, even really stupid ones, with quickness and wit. He also explained -a lot- about how his mind works. The guy impressed me when I really thought it wasn't possible. I asked a question that he answered in detail and talked to him afterwards and got his autograph. He was really nice. He seemed smart and insightful about the movie business. Then we watched Heart of America, which was decent and not what I expected. The movie was definitely up and down, it had a lot of good elements and then stuff that just didn't work. It reminded me of a decent made for tv movie more than anything.

Sarah and I went to the Tracey Fragments on Sunday. We were both super excited about it and love Ellen Page, but it was very disappointing. We saw Knocked Up on Thursday, which we both completely hated. I totally can’t understand what anyone saw in that movie. After we watched Itty Bitty Titty Committee which was really disappointing as well. Last night we went to Breakfast With Scot at the film festival. I was supposed to get an interview with the director but he ended up not coming to town. I did however get a media pass for the festival. Too bad there was only one day left, because it would’ve gotten me into all the movies, parties and galas I wanted to go to. Still, just wearing it made me feel kind of special, hehe. Breakfast was really good and a nice gay entry into the ‘reluctant parent’ genre. Then we rented Robin’s Hood which was so terrible I can’t really explain it. It had the production values of a porn but no sex, a completely ridiculous storyline that ripped off Set It Off with no believability, the acting of junior high kids in a story written by an angst, semi-retarded 13 year old. TERRIBLE.

Speaking of movies, Across the Universe has finally come to town. Anyone want to go?

Shirley contacted Tegan and Sara’s management and apparently the band’s sending flowers to Laleh’s service. I think that’s good of them. I wonder if they feel guilt for what happened. Accidents are like that, so many people have a hand in what did or didn’t occur.

I never finished updating on the concerts. The second show was amazing of course. Slightly more intimate, although the sound in the Horowitz isn’t quite as good. I ended up with quite the hall of merchandise. 8 postcards (1 signed), 4 packs of buttons, 1 poster (signed), 1 grey t-shirt, 1 cream t-shirt (for my mom), 1 hoody (signed) all totalling up to like $150 or so. Sarah and I also took two huge posters Sonic had put up right before the show. It was sold out, it’s not like they needed to advertise. They were all getting ripped down quick. The only downside was bitchface being there, I thought I’d have the second concert to myself. And she was with Karey, which was totally weird. The girls had this awesome discussion onstage about dressing like boys and one about Ashanti. I have it on tape! I recorded the audio of the concert with one of the station’s mini-disk recorders. It’s awesome! I’m going to play it on the radio. But now I have to make copies for like nearly everyone.

This is some sort of pure sex right here:

I've listened to this song on repeat for quite a while now. Their voices are pretty superb, especially live like that. Usually you can tell the difference between studio recorded and live vocals. These are flawless.

Also, it's memorising, watch the last half of the videos and watch the girl's hands as they play. It's all perfectly in sync.

While the girls are always awesome live, this video is really extra special. They just sound fantastic, they were clearly having a superb voice day and the quality of the recording is great.

Tegan and Sara usually sound pretty close to their CD tracks, maybe because they're a lot less likely to use the autotuner. Actually, a lot of their songs are better now live because their voices have significantly matured and in some cases, they take more interesting vocal risks. They're definitely the only live band I've seen that does some better song versions live.

I agree, the hands are rather mesmerizing.

Man, I've wanted to see this for a while, but it's only playing at South Common. Why must obscure indie films that appeal to carless people go to the theater with the least carless accessibility? :|

!! That IS ridiculous! I was planning to go with Ali and neither of us is going to have a fun time getting there.

Tam, that video is fantastic! What's the song called?

I know! I waited a week because I thought it would open up into more theatres in town by the second week. It didn't. I find usually the indie movies that go to the bigger theatres play at City Centre, South Edmonton Common is insane. I can't imagine the people in that area would be attracted to that sort of film. Bah.

The ETS Trip Planner claims I can get from my house near Bonnie Doon to the theatre in 45 minutes. I don't believe it.

The song is Dark Come Soon from the album The Con by Tegan and Sara.

You probably can, it's just very very sensitive to timing. You miss the connection and it'll take 1:30.

Shockingly it was only 50 minutes with a ten minute wait in between.

You're right, it's fantastic.
(and yeah, the synchronized hands are mesmerizing!)
Not having been a listener of their stuff in the past, what is the name of the song?

So many random people keep stumbling onto my journal lately. It's starting to freak me out!

Heh, anyway, the song is Dark Come Soon from The Con. As much as I like the cd version, this one is somehow better. The acoustics and high quality of the video just add up to some massive greatness.

Don't worry about us random people. :) Most of us are kind.

I followed the links re: Ross. I didn't know Ross; I wish I did. I haven't had a friend die on me, but my Dad did in 2004. It still feels like yesterday and makes me cry, but I'm more at peace about it. I wish for you and all those who knew him peace.

Changing topics, you seem really cool. I have to admit to now completely LOVING Tegan and Sarah b/c of you -- thanks for that gift. Mind if I friend you?

Yeah, that's generally true.

Thank you. I'm glad you're on your way to finding your peace.

Feel free to add me! I'll add you back. The easiest way to my heart is proclaiming T n S love, and if you thank/blame me for it than I'm double super happy. Woo!
